The Poems
The following three poems are blackout poems I created using pages from different editions of Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë and A History of British Birds by Thomas Bewick. "the last thing i know" comes from page 387 of the 1947 Oxford University Press edition of Jane Eyre, "an eagle, caught in a fox-trap" comes from page 7 of the 1847 J. Blackwell and Co. edition of A History of British Birds, and "i am no bird; an no net ensnares me" comes from page 190 of the 1947 Random House edition of Jane Eyre.
Working with older editions of these two books and reworking the words on these pages was simultaneously challenging, invigorating, and soothing. I've done my best to allow the original themes of Jane Eyre to shine through while also putting my own spin on the text.
